Documentation

The stories kept changing.

One day you’re reacting to something that clearly happened. The next day you’re defending the fact that it happened at all.

So I kept the receipts.

Texts. Emails. Timelines. Sworn statements and legal filings that don’t care how my ex has always told it.  Only what the receipts say.

Because when someone is committed to rewriting your life in real time, you need more than facts.

You need facts they can't bully away.

The next section offers a brief glimpse of how being the keeper of those facts helped make the aftermath survivable.

Excerpt

A Moment from the Story

He was small enough to fit in the palm of a hand

and too young to survive on his own.

Freedom as a tiny fluffy baby bird sitting in straw at the beginning of his rescue story in the children’s book Help Freedom

The bird was just tiny,
And covered with down
From his ankles and tail,
All the way to his crown.

He was hungry and weak;
He just lay on the floor
Of the cage where Pop put him,

By the laundry room door.

This is where their journey begins.

WHAT READERS SAY

I love reading Help Freedom Fly to my grandkids. The story of Freedom and Bill speaks to the bond that we humans have with the animal kingdom. The illustrations capture us with each and every reading and I'm certain this book will grow time-worn with love.
